Chai Chairman Louise Hager launched the organisation's 2012 campaign with an appeal to donors for £2m. The charity's annual dinner was held on the 12th December at The Grosvenor House Hotel and was hosted by Gerald and Dame Gail Ronson. The room was filled to capacity with over 440 guests who attended to support the Jewish Community’s cancer support organisation.

Dame Gail welcomed the guests and spoke about the importance of the work that Chai does, how she is “so impressed with the passion and professionalism of the team at Chai and how they are able to support all those in need, at every stage of their cancer journey. “

The theme of the night was the ‘Future of Cancer Care’ for the community. This was reflected throughout the evening and Louise Hager, Chai’s Chairman, spoke about the need this year to raise just under £2 million to cover running costs of its current services and the new capital build. The refurbishment of one of the wings at Chai’s Hendon flagship centre will house the new ground -breaking Medial Outpatient Rehabilitation and Palliative Care Service in collaboration with the Royal Free Hampstead and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Louise told the audience “The take- up of this service was dramatic and will allow us to meet the ever growing need of the community. The wing will offer nurse-led clinics, much needed group art and music therapies, one and two day programmes and will include the expansion of the children and teenage service for children affected by a cancer diagnosis in their family.”

The uplifting and well-received evening’s entertainment was String Fever, the worlds first genetically modified string quartet who played a selection of well-known songs whilst involving and engaging the audience.

The evening was an amazing success and with the generosity of all of Chai’s supporters who attended, Chai was able to raise over £800,000, which will go towards ensuring the future of cancer care for the community.
