New Cancer Reform Strategy Encouraging to Chai Cancer Care

Health Secretary Alan Johnson unveiled plans to reform Cancer services in the UK. The strategy builds on the success of the first Cancer Plan published in 2000.

Chai Cancer Care provides an extensive range of services for cancer patients in the Jewish Community, their family and friends. From initial diagnosis, through treatment, during the period when patients and their families are trying to regain control of their lives, and even many years later, Chai provides essential support.

Within the Cancer Reform Plan there is greater emphasis on providing more ongoing support for people living with their cancer. Chai Cancer Care has been successfully providing this support for the 18 years of its existence; clearly Chai was ahead of its time when making these services available to the community.

Chief Executive Elaine Kerr, remarked:

"It is encouraging to see a national strategy that intens to make the sorts of services we offer at Chai available to the whole population. We hope that the strategy will provide opportunities for Chai to forge closer working relationships with statutory and voluntary sector colleagues for the ongoing benefit of our clients."
