What a difference a day makes!

A Chai client was amongst a group of 17 courageous and adventurous women who have just returned from the Lake District, who took part in the ‘24Peaks in 24Hours’ challenge in aid of Chai. These incredible ‘Chai Climbers’ were challenged to make a difference in just 24 hours and have done so, by raising an incredible £85,000 for Chai Cancer Care.

Danya Ross, a Chai client, whose son Raffi was diagnosed with cancer, chose to undertake this gruelling challenge explaining, “Now that our Raffi is well, it’s our turn to thank all the angels that were sent to support us through that stage in our lives.

Chai didn’t just enhance our child’s life, Chai helps us give life and light to our children at a time when life and light were so uncertain. Unfortunately there is cancer in the world, fortunately there is Chai in the world! I did this hike so that anyone who is faced with cancer will be able to face cancer with Chai.”

The ‘24Peaks in 24Hours’ challenge is the second bespoke challenge from Chai’s nationwide initiative, ‘Chai Challenges You’ which launched in 2015 by veteran trekker and Chai Ambassador, Alexandra Maurice following the huge success of the Kilimanjaro Trek in 2013.

Alexandra Maurice, said: “There were many highs and lows on this trek which mirrored the cancer journey. At one point along the way we stopped to send a message of support to a friend having chemotherapy, it seemed apt – we do these challenges as a sign of solidarity and as a fitting tribute to our loved ones. It’s the least we can do!”

Chai’s Chairman, Louise Hager, said: “What this group has achieved is so wonderful! The £85,000 raised will go towards supporting our Home Support Service. We salute Alexandra Maurice for her incredible dedication to Chai and for driving ‘Chai Challenges YOU’ and the 24 Peaks Challenge forward. Chai needs the community's generosity to help raise the £2.5 million it will cost to provide its services each year.”

All funds raised will go towards Chai’s Home Support Service, where Chai’s expertise and care is brought to clients in their own homes, hospitals and hospices.

Whether your personal challenge is to skydive, ride a bike or even climb a mountain, ‘Chai Challenges YOU’ to go the extra mile to make a difference
