Running for Laurel – David Cohen raises over £2,350 so far for Chai

Inspirational David Cohen, has chosen to take part in a series of runs and races in memory of his late wife, Laurel, whilst pushing his baby daughter, Ruby in a buggy.

Prior to embarking on his first challenge, David said: “Many of you will be aware of last year's tragic events in which Laurel was cruelly taken from us. In her honour, and to raise awareness and support for some wonderful charities who helped her and myself, I plan to do some runs/races during 2016.

My goal is to run (pushing Ruby!) the 6 Regent's Park 10km races from April-September and to raise £1800 for each charity (it was originally £600 each but due to amazing support so far, those targets have been passed already!!!).

I am raising money for Chai Cancer Care because during her final weeks they provided support to Laurel, whereby a counsellor visited her at the Hospice.

In addition, both during her final weeks and in the months since her death I have received counselling and therapies (like massages!) at their wonderful facility in Hendon, London. I continue to see a Chai counsellor weekly.”

Following David’s first race on Sunday 3rd April, hesaid: It was a perfect day for running. All in, about 10 runners joined myself and Ruby. She did famously! A bit of complaining when the sun was in her eyes but then I think she lay back (literally) and enjoyed it and even fell asleep in the final lap.

We started from the back so as not to cause too much chaos. After the initial 2km, the route hits a wide avenue through the park and Ruby and I opened the buggy up into top gear. Let's say that some runners were cheered by our overtaking them whilst others a bit put out.

We ended in the grand time of 49:62 (ok that's technically 50:02 but sounds better sub 50mins, eh?) and Ruby beat me by a buggy length approximately. We had a fantastic time and my family and friends and families of the other runners came out in support. Bring on the next run in May! "
